About Lucas Gaudette

Lucas Gaudette When the mind is made silent by splendour, art can open hearts & nurture the human spirit.

I like to practice various expressions of the artistic process as I flesh out who I am and how I relate to the world. I make myself available for moments of magic. Whether it's an idea that I illustrate, words I define or a photo I capture, it's because something has called out to me; often quiet but definitive, it highlights a certain truth about the meaning of life itself.

Through this online store, I include original and unique versions of my work for sale in various forms and optional formats. While I like to focus on specialty items that I produce which are not available as general print items, such as my FlipSide Postcards, I want to make my work as accessible as possible. Please enjoy my print-on-demand creations, and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out to me.

A BRIEF HISTORY

Born on August 26, 1979. I'm from Windsor, Ontario. I moved to Toronto at 18, had some life-changing experiences, returned to Windsor, and headed to Vancouver, BC when I was 23. I always knew I would head this way. Mostly, it was the natural beauty of the province that drew me. That is breathable air and a culture that is more outdoors-focused. I headed out for the long drive with a close friend I had met only a year before while playing in a local folk-rock band. We sold everything we owned (save for what we fit in the VW Jetta) and came here with barely enough money to make it to our destination. Shannon pursued his career in acting, and I set about building a life centred around being available for the little things in life that make it worth living. For me, this lifestyle meant pursuing personal truth and a life in which I had time to be there for friends and be available to witness the beauty that life offers and attempt to decipher its meaning.

I'M HERE FOR THE VIEW AND ITS HIDDEN TREASURES

The power to witness something (anything) with one's entire presence is an unparalleled skill and delight. I meander around cities, towns and countryside to find inspiration - especially to capture moments that are simply spectacular and largely unnoticed by the bustling population. I love finding a good spot to sit and watch, to draw, and then quietly contemplate existence for a while. From my early days living on the Sunshine Coast, BC (a countryside close to Vancouver), I was able to spend time both in the wild and in cafes. I can say that I was among the early ones staking claim to the lifestyle of working on a laptop from wherever I damn well pleased. I sacrificed a lot to stay with it. After years of toiling as an employee, I became a solo entrepreneur. This process led me to provide many services over the years, including working with children on the autism spectrum, facilitating day camps for local kids, a freelance art career, and a web development and maintenance service that continues today. Each has contributed to my technical skills and my approach to life in general.

I have always continued my pencil drawing and digital art practice throughout all of it. I have also put a lot of energy into sharpening my skill to express my thoughts in words. As it turns out, it's beneficial to be able to explain an image as a component of its inspirational value. My routine evolved with the dawn of good camera phones; I began to snap some photos of the places I visited as I worked and explored. I felt it was a practical way to express an experience that would be redundant to illustrate.

WHAT'S HAPPENING THESE DAYS
I currently reside on Vancouver Island as I cultivate a more focused art career that feeds the inspirational value of those captivated by this part of the world. Beyond this, I like to point a lens at other aspects of the human experience, such as I do with my Wholesome Sexy art (my longest-standing body of work) and Modern Gods. The environments of this part of the world (the Pacific North-West) offer levels of an unreal beauty, and a peaceful escape is always around the corner. I'm both a city and a country person, and I have moved homes over 50 times in my life so far, staying in places ranging from deep downtowns to far countryside retreats. I love changing the scene and changing my perspective by physically shifting my environment. I spend a lot of time walking around and taking day trips to find new adventures.

I LOVE TO INSPIRE
The part of me that needs to share my artwork is the one that values connection with life and everything in it. There is a self-fulfilling process of art, and then there is a whole other component if one chooses to share it with the world. To me, each one is a form of art.

STAY IN TOUCH
I like to send sporadic emails to inspire people who appreciate and benefit from my work. My art comes in multiple flavours, from nature photography, and modified classic art with modern subjects, to drawings of cute & sexy figures. I will also loop you in on anything I have an offer in terms of prints, postcards, framed things and so forth. Sometimes I get excited and send a few out in a month, and sometimes there may be crickets. Either way, you can opt-out any time, and of course, I'm not sharing your data.
